Guest of a Guest Party June 12, 2010

Internet Week is a week-long festival of events celebrating New York’s thriving internet industry and community. With a multitude of events to get through the week www.guestofaguest.com decided to host the antithesis of this, by throwing a “Non-Internet Week Party” at newly re-opened The Jane Ballroom.

Being an online portal detailing the people, places and parties in NYC, obviously this was a tongue-in-cheek excuse to throw a party, and certainly capitalised on Internet week, with a variety of wheelers and dealers in the Internet industry, who came to eat (many thanks to the Fatty Crew for an amazing spread of food) and drink (smoked tequilla and green Chartreuse anyone?)

www.guestoftheguest.com said it best themselves, when stating:

There was networking at The Guest of a Guest/Eats.com/Delivery.com party, to be sure; hands were shaken, business cards exchanged, start-up ideas lauded. But mostly there was hanging out, eating good food, and taking a break from talking business.

Todd Richman led a group of brave souls in a record-breaking round of “pass the fire” at the bar, while others relaxed with wine on the couches. The biggest crowd of the evening was always centered around the food bar, where people went back once, twice, three times for Fatty Dogs (myself, I couldn’t get enough of the pork belly tea sandwiches) and strawberries with chili salt.

Guest of a Guest mascot, Stanley, the adorable bulldog pup, even came out to partake in the festivities for the evening. Being the people pleasing dog that he is, he was a massive hit and conversation-starter, and was surely lapping up the attention!

new adidas Star Wars/FIFA World Cup ad June 6, 2010

Full article and video as published at http://guestofaguest.com/sports/david-beckham-and-snoop-dogg-star-in-star-wars-fifa-ad/

During the past 6 months, the adidas Originals label has licensed iconic Star Wars characters for its Spring/Summer range. While it may be debatable the merits of releasing these joint initiatives now. i.e. why?! (view my other posts in adidas that talks about this subject) adidas have released an AWESOME new video just in time for the 2010 FIFA World Cup, based on the classic Star Wars Cantina scene.-

“adidas Originals invites you to join David Beckham, Daft Punk, Snoop Dogg, Franz Beckenbauer, Noel Gallagher, Ian Brown, Ciara, Jay Baruchel, DJ Neil Armstrong and some of your dear, old friends for an intergalactic 2010 FIFA World Cup™ viewing party that you’ll never forget.”

With a great juxtaposition of old and new, the creative re-edit of the Cantina scene sees Snoop Dogg filling in for Skywalker and David Beckham playing up his foot injury.

The unique ad was created as a result of a close partnership with Lucasfilm Ltd. who granted adidas use of their film for this special execution – obviously at a very hefty fee!

The campaign will launch on TV in the UK and USA on June 12th. Sure makes you remember how cool the (original) Star Wars was!

Royal Pains 2nd Season Premiere June 2, 2010

Firstly, let me give a big apologies for the almost 2 month absence on my behalf….that is, should there be anyone still reading my posts?!

I have taken on a freelance writing gig at one of my favourite sites www.guestofaguest.com which primarily involves writing blog pieces like the one to follow – so needless to say, with 7 hours a day of writing blogs, I haven’t felt particularly inspired to post any on my own site.

I will share some writing pieces later, but in the meantime, on Tuesday 1 June, 2010, USA Network, Vanity Fair and Lacoste  threw a joint party to celebrate the Second Season of Royal Pains at the flagship Lacoste store on 5th Ave, NYC.

All of the cast members were there, as vodka gimlets, sparkling water, champagne and hor d’oeuvres were served up to the packed two-story space.

Royal Pains follows the Hampton’s newest doctor-on demand, Hank Lawson. After Hank, a young doctor on the fast track to success, falls from grace when he is blamed for the death of a hospital trustee, he inadvertently stumbles into the world of private medical service for the elite denizens of the Hampton’s. With the encouragement of his younger brother and an ambitious young women who volunteers to be his assistant, Hank reluctantly agrees to be a “Concierge Doctor” for the summer.

Mark Feuerstein and Paulo Costanzo who play the brothers both attended the Hamptons-esque soiree,  alongside new cast member,  Henry “The Fonz” Winkler.

All the cast members were decked out in Lacoste, which is a very fitting partnership for a show set in the Hamptons – the home of the rich, preppy and those with their own tennis courts!

For more on the event, please see my event coverage on Guest of a Guest http://guestofaguest.com/events/parties/polos-cocktails-and-warm-summer-breeze-at-royal-pains-premiere-at-lacoste/

Season 2 begins on June 3 on the US Network.

Walter 2010 Fall NYC Fashion Show – featuring DANNIJO February 18, 2010

Back from a long absence, I have finally resurfaced in my new home in New York City. However, now in self-imposed exile due to a) now being ‘funemployed’, b) knowing less people to go out with and c) having been here for a millisecond so not on any invite lists… I have had no exciting events to share on my blog.

All that changed when I was lucky enough to win tickets to a NYC Fall Fashion show, thanks to one of my daily read websites “Guest of a Guest”.

With snow falling heavily outside I was unsure what people wore to such an event, but nonetheless dragged myself out to no-mans land between 10th and 11th Ave near Penn Station to watch the Walter 2010 Fall Fashion Show on Tuesday 16 February, 2010. With a packed crowd, including some ’Real Housewives of New York’ it seems weather is no deterent for the fashion-going public in NYC.

Walter designs were simple wearable creations with a slant on military aesthetics (very in right now darling). The real highlight however, was the sparkly silver jewellery that accompanied the show, all from DANNIJO, a heavy celeb favorite.

Australia’s own Napoleon Perdis also was make-up artist for the models of the show, using a heavy palate of blue eyeshadow, as the only pop of colour in the predominantly grey and black show. I had a chance to meet the ”wog boy made make-up guru” after the stage and he seemed pleased to hear another Aussie accent in the crowd.
